How to turn a GitHub repo or folder into one PDF
- Paste a GitHub link: a whole repo, or a folder link like github.com/you/notes/tree/main/javascript.
- Tick the files you want. They are ordered naturally, so Day2 comes before Day10. Drag or use the arrows to change the order.
- Choose page size, text size, contents page and cover, then click Create PDF and download.
Questions
Does it work with private repositories?
Yes, with a GitHub token. Open "Private repo or rate limit?", paste a read-only token, and it is used only to talk to GitHub. It is kept in memory and never stored. Public repositories need no token.
Why does it need to contact GitHub?
To list and download the files you choose, the same way your browser would open them. Those requests go straight from your browser to GitHub. PDFboat has no server that sees your files or your link.
Is there a usage limit?
GitHub allows 60 anonymous requests per hour per network. Loading a repo uses 2 and downloading files does not count. If you hit the limit, add a token to raise it.
What gets included in the PDF?
Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic, links, lists, tables, quotes, colour-highlighted code blocks, and images stored in the same repository. Images hosted elsewhere are replaced by their description. Text in other scripts (Hindi, Chinese, Arabic and more) and emoji are drawn with your device's own fonts, so they look right but that text is a picture and cannot be selected. The PDF also gets a bookmarks panel with one entry per file and section.
How are the files ordered?
Naturally by name, files before sub-folders, so lesson-2 comes before lesson-10. You can reorder them by dragging or with the arrows.
Can I password-protect the PDF?
Yes. Switch on "Password-protect", choose a password, and the PDF is encrypted with AES-256. It is off by default. If you forget the password it cannot be recovered.
