Questions

Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?

No. A PDF is a fixed picture of a page; Word reflows text. PDFboat rebuilds the text as paragraphs with headings, lists, bold, italic and sizes, and puts pictures in order, so it is easy to edit. Exact positions, fonts and borders are not kept. Two-column pages are read column by column, and tables are found from aligned columns; tables drawn without gaps between columns, or with cells merged downwards, can still come out as text.

What about scanned PDFs?

Switch on "Read scanned pages (OCR)" and PDFboat reads English text from the page pictures so you get editable text. It needs a one-time download of about 14 MB of reader data, and takes a few seconds a page. Without OCR, a scanned page is placed in the Word file as a picture.

Which fonts are used?

Arial, Times New Roman or Courier New, chosen from the look of the original font. Exact fonts of the PDF cannot be rebuilt in Word, and bold, italic and sizes are kept.

Can I choose pages?

Yes. Choose "Some pages" and type the pages you want, like 1-3, 7.

Does it work for other languages?

Text stored in the PDF comes out as it is, in any language. OCR for scans is English only for now.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The PDF is read and the Word file is made inside your browser tab. Nothing leaves your device.
