Questions
How strong is the protection?
The PDF is encrypted with AES-256, the same standard banks use. A long password that is not a common word makes it very hard to break.
Is my password sent anywhere?
No. The encryption is done on your device inside this tab, so neither your file nor your password is uploaded.
What if I forget the password?
It cannot be recovered. Nobody can open the file without it, including us. Keep the password somewhere safe.
Which programs can open the result?
Any modern PDF reader: Adobe Acrobat, Preview on Mac, Chrome, Edge, Firefox and phone readers all ask for the password.
Can I protect a file that already has a password?
Yes. Enter its current password first, then choose the new one.
Can I remove a password later?
Yes, with the Unlock PDF tool, if you know the password.
